Constipation is a common condition. Most of us will experience it at some point of our lives. There are many different reasons for constipation. The latter is not a pleasant or comfortable condition. In the long run, it can adversely affect your health. In fact, chronic constipation is a leading cause of the painful disease called piles. Ignore constipation at your peril. There are certain foods that cause constipation and must be avoided. On the other hand, there are foods that are excellent for curing this condition. Knowledge is power. While consuming ripe bananas ensure smooth bowel movements, eating raw bananas has the opposite effect. The reason is that unripe bananas have high concentration of tannins that exacerbate this condition.

Consuming red meat such as pork, bacon, ham, steak, beef or mutton contributes to this condition because of their high iron content.
Drinking alcohol can result in too much or too little motions. Alcohol is a powerful diuretic. The loss of water from the body can cause dry and hard stools which are difficult to pass.
- Dairy Products
Dairy foods such as milk and cheese are high in calcium which cause this condition in vulnerable individuals.
- Processed Food
Processed foods are usually high in added salts and fats which soak up the water in the body. The result is hard and difficult to pass stools.
- Fried foods
Fried foods which contain proteins and fats trigger the release of gut hormones that are responsible for slowing down the gastrointestinal transit.
