Chewy pasta, creamy sauce and plenty of cheese, it’s a special treat to the kids. Cheese plays an important role in the life of kids. Its also an easy stove-top dish that can be put together in a jiffy at the end of a long day. A bowl of macaroni and cheese is a comfort for many of us. You can also add your favorite items such as onions, red peppers, ham, peas, sausages to give a kick to the dish. It’s a filling and one of the satisfying dish that can be eaten. Creamy Macaroni and Cheese
- Pasta – 1 pound
- Milk – 1.5 cups
- All-purpose flour – 2 tbsp
- Salt- 1/2tsp
- Powdered mustard – 1/4 tsp
- shredded cheese – 2 cups
Add-ons of your choice: cauliflower, broccoli, peppers, peas, mushrooms, bacon, ham
Cook the pasta as mentioned in the packet.
In a heavy bottom pan heat 1 cup milk on medium heat. Whisk together the 1/2 cup milk and the flour so there is no lump. When the milk in the pan starts to boil, add this mixture and stir continuously for 3 to 5 minutes to get the consistency of a heavy cream.
Reduce the flame. To creamy mixture, add 1/2 cup shredded cheese, salt and mustard. Stir well until the cheese melts into the creamy sauce. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings accordingly. Remove the pan from the heat.
In a large serving bowl, combine the pasta with 1/2 of the cheese sauce well. Add the other half of the sauce after adding the extra add-in.
Note: For baked mac and cheese
Transfer the macaroni and cheese into a baking dish. Cover the same with a lid or aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes are 350 degree Fahrenheit.
Remove the cover, sprinkle breadcrumbs and add a couple of small cubes of butter. Bake it at the same temperature for 10 to 15 minutes.
